Amy de Jong has been going to Uganda since 2015 and since then it has been her second home. She was gripped by the great need among people with disabilities in Uganda, who are unfortunately rejected, ignored, or worse. The stories are heartbreaking. God called Amy and showed her that His Father's heart also beats for people with disabilities in Uganda. God asks us to stand up against injustice and to share His love in the lives of broken people.

Driven by the love of God, Amy plans on leaving for Uganda April 2021 to begin her ministry of the Special Joy and Love of God for people with disabilities.

"Special Joy; A joyful Special Needs Ministry rooted in Love Itself "

This is the heart of Amy, and the vision and mission summed up in one sentence. It is God's heart that Amy wants to convey to the people of Uganda in this way.

       "We love because He first loved us." - 1 Jn. 4:19

       “The Lord your God is in the midst of you, a mighty one who will save. He will rejoice over you with joy. He will be silent in His love. He will rejoice over you with singing ... See, at that time I'm going to take action against all your oppressors. I will save those who limp, gather those who are driven out. I will make them a praise and a name in all the land where they were ashamed. ' - Zephaniah 3:17, 19

Amy is sent from the Hervormde Gemeente Hardinxveld-Giessendam and works together / is supervised by iTeams NL.

In short, Amy is commissioned to Search, Serve and Share. She does this by collaborating with various Ugandan organizations that work for people with a disability, also known as 'special people with special needs'.

The following 4 points are a guideline for her work;

  • The Special Joy that God has for special people. (Relationship with God)
    • God's heart is for people with disabilities, and He rejoices over them with joy. He loves them deeply.
  • The Special Joy and acceptance that special people are allowed to receive for themselves through relationship with God and Jesus' finished work. (Relationship with themselves)
    • Jesus died and rose again for them, and if they believe so, they can rejoice in their new identity as children of God.
  • The Special Joy that special people are allowed to share in their environment. (Relationship with their loved ones)
  • The Special Joy that special people add to the worldwide Church because they too are part of the body of Christ. (Relationship with the world)

In addition, Amy will be involved in building the Ugandan church and she will join the Streams of Life church.

To be able to do all this properly, Amy will also learn the local language Luganda.

Amy is in a relationship with a Ugandan man named Derrick. Together they receive coaching to prepare for a marriage guided by God's love and for a life in mission. In this way they also hope to be a shining light in their immediate environment.

We believe that as children of God, we are a family like the body of Christ, and that each of us has been given separate responsibilities to suit us. Together we may let this Body love in this world, with Christ as our Head. And, love becomes more when we share it together.
