We are Hilbert and Evelien de Vries. We married in 2011 and we have three beautiful daughters: Sarah, Emma and Deborah. After we married, we lived in Tanzania for a few months. Hilbert did his last medical internship there and Evelien was able to work for a Dutch development organization. This experience stirred in us the desire to continue to work in the future for people who have far fewer facilities than we do. When Klaus-Dieter John, the director of Hospital Diospi Suyana, asked us to come to Peru in August 2022, it was clear to us that this would be our path in life for the coming years.
In Peru, Hilbert will work as a general surgeon and as a GE (abdominal oncology) surgeon. There is another general surgeon working at the hospital who desperately needs support. Hilbert hopes to be able to offer that to him. For Evelien it is not yet completely clear what she will do. Initially it will be to make sure that the family finds its feet. There are then various options, such as administration in the hospital or contributions to the children's clubs that are organized in the area as an evangelization project by the German foundation.
The children will go to the local mission school of Diospi Suyana for their education. This is a Spanish-speaking school. Hilbert and Evelien will also teach other subjects at home including Dutch.

Their sending community is the reformed church of Ede, in particular the Oude Kerk in Ede.
