Shelter

She sat at the table with the other women. The babies were fed and passed on so that everyone could eat. The room was full of companionship and laughter. Only when the meal is over do I realise that the mothers are themselves still children. They disappear into another room, and are suddenly back in childhood, playing tag together.

In their home of Ecuador they fell in to the hands of men who abused them or let them be abused. The state is slow to deal with the situation, and usually doesn’t do more than a limited year long education course. After the course ends they’re back on the street or in the bus to their home – which is where the abuse started.

What we want to add to this situation is a place where a number of girls and their children can grow up in a protected environment. They need a place where they can find healing for their damaged trust and emotions.

End Slavery

Casa Adalia is part of End Slavery Ecuador, a team that reports back to iTeams NL. Its workers are Ecuadorian, Dutch, American and Canadian.

End Slavery is involved in fighting trafficking, prostitution and forced labour – today’s slaves. The team is involved in providing shelter, prevention work, awareness raising, and providing work opportunities to young women who need it.

Shelter

At the moment we are renting a house for Casa Adalia, but we hope to purchase one in the future. However, before this can be done much must happen, and these things take time in Ecuador. The house we are now renting could be transformed into a living space with a little work, and it is also home to other ESME projects such as Esperanz Art Project – Ecuador.

ESME

ESME (End Slavery Ministries Ecuador) is the umbrella charity which covers Casa Adalia. It is a registered charity, which means that Casa Adalia has a legal status in Ecuador.
